Market FAQ

  1. What is the Vector Depot Market?
The Market is a way for you to sell some of your custom VectorWorks items. You will submit items to us, as you do now, however these items will be offered for sale in a section of the Vector Depot we call the Market. We handle sales and distribution of these items and pay you royalties.

  2. But I thought the things at Vector Depot were free?
We still offer free items. If an author wishes to offer an item for free we put it up in the free section. The Market will be an optional service of Vector Depot.

  3. Why can't everything be free?
Many people have spent quite a bit of time developing their custom solutions for VectorWorks and are reluctant to just give these things away. The Market will reward these people for their efforts. If you consider the cost of reproducing the items we offer you should find the prices a bargain.

  4. How much will items cost in the Market?
We will have different levels of pricing.
    • Level 1: $5.00
    • Level 2: $10.00
    • Level 3: $15.00
    • Level 4: $25.00 and up.
All prices are in US dollars.

  5. Who determines the pricing on items?
The authors of each item suggest the pricing but we will be the final judge of it's value. We are striving to offer good value to the users. Please feel free to consult with us to arrive at a fair price.

  6. How much will I get offering my items for sale through the Vector Depot Market?
You will get 50% of the money from Level 1, 2 & 3 items ($2.50, $5.00 or $7.50 respectively.) From Higher level items you will get all but $10.00 of the selling price.

  7. So Vector Depot gets a cut of each Sale? Is this fair?
The Vector Depot Market will keep a portion of the proceeds from each item sold. Only you can determine if this is fair or not. We think it is. It costs us money to host and run this site. We also have to pay credit card processing fees for each and every transaction. These fees come out of our portion of the money not yours.

  8. OK, I am interested but when will I see my money?
You will receive a check from Vector Depot twice a year. Checks are currently scheduled for distribution in June and January.

  9. How do I get my money?
For US based sellers we can send a check or you may elect for us to transfer your money via PayPal. For non-US based sellers we only offer the PayPal option. We used to offer more choices for non-US accounts but there were too many problems and the fees were not reasonable. PayPal will allow you to withdraw the money to your bank account or use it at any site that accepts PayPal. PayPal also offers an option to use your PayPal balance at any site that accepts a credit card. Features available via PayPal vary from country to country to please check your options. If these options are not acceptable please let us know and we will discontinue offering your items if you wish.

  10. Why do I have to wait so long for the check?
If we have to process the payment more often this will lead to more accounting and paperwork for us which in turn increases our costs. If we are to keep this cost effective we must limit the number of payments we make in a year.

  11. What about taxes?
You may be required to pay taxes on the money earned via the Vector Depot Market. For this reason we will require all participants in the United States to provide us with a tax ID number or Social Security Number so that we may provide the appropriate forms at tax time. International participants are required to handle their tax situations themselves. We will supply a written report of all sales to each participant when the royalty checks are mailed. ALL AUTHORS ARE REQUIRED TO DETERMINE THEIR OWN TAX LIABILITIES FOR ROYALITES COLLECTED.

  12. How do I get the items I purchase?
In order to keep costs low, this service is available only through the internet. We may offer regular mail service by request but this will incur additional costs. After recieving your payment we will email your purchase to you directly.

  13. How do I pay?
We have elected to use the PayPal service. PayPal will allow anyone with a credit card to purchase items through the Market.

  14. What can I submit?
You can submit any VectorWorks related items that you are the original author of.

  15. What is my responsibility to the purchaser?
You will be required to provide support for your products.

You must include a 'readme' file in PLAIN TEXT for each item. In this file you must include contact information with a minimum of your mailing and email address.

Phone and fax support are optional.

You must also include a brief explanation on how to install your product. Referring the user to the manual is fine for generic information but be sure to spell out any special conditions such as location of data files for PIOs or fonts used in drawings.

To protect yourself we also suggest you include a disclaimer stating that the product is provided as is, etc.

  16. Who provides support for items purchased through the Market?
The original author of the items will be responsible for supporting their offerings (see above) Vector Depot will refer all inquiries to the authors.

  17. Can I get a list of people who have purchased my product?
Certainly. Upon request we will provide a list of all persons who have purchased a specific product. This information will only be provided to the original authors.

  18. How do I submit something?

  19. What sort of warranty is there?
All items are provided AS IS, without warranty, expressed or otherwise implied. Buyers and sellers agree to limit Vector Depot's liability in claims to a maximum of the original purchase price of the item.

Having said that, we will not offer items known to not work. We will remove any item reported to be defective. Any author not supporting or fixing defects in a product will have at a minimum that product removed from the Market. Serious moral or ethical lapses, as determined by Vector Depot, will result in authors being banned from use of the Market.

  20. How can I determine if an item is any good?
We hope that the prices will be low enough that there isn't serious apprehension in purchasing any product. We do realize that you like to be certain before spending your money so we will invite purchasers to use the new comments feature to discuss any item offered for sale in the Market. We will welcome reviews, good or bad, of any item.

  21. Will these rules ever change?
They may but not without warning. We will alert all sellers of any changes to the policies of the Market prior to the changes taking effect. You will always be free to withdraw your offerings. This document will always be updated to reflect current policies.

  22. What if I don't meet these criteria?
We will remove your offering from the Market. Failure to provide support or if items do not work as advertised are grounds for having your items removed from the Market.

  23. How long does it take to get an item once I place my order?
Most purchases will be completed in minutes but some portions of this are out of our control. We will strive to fill all orders within 24 hours. If there are known delays we will post a note on the front page of Vector Depot.

  24. I still haven't recieved my item and it has been at least 10 minutes(an hour, 2 days, etc)
Short delays are normal. We are a one man shop. Assuming we get the payment information from PayPal in a timely fashion we will process the order during the normal course of our day. Keep in mind that we are located in the US on the east coast. What may be mid day for you could be the middle of the night for us.

It is possible that there are problems with PayPal. Check with PayPal to determine if the payment has been processed.

Did you provide PayPal with the correct email address? If we don't have the correct address we can't email your purchase.

  25. I still have a question
Feel free to send us a note with any questions or concerns you have.
